Birth of the Monster Truck

Posted by niceguy2010

In 1975, a man from St. Louis, MO named Bob Chandler bought a Ford Ranger pickup truck with 4 wheel drive. That means power from the engine goes to all four wheels. Bob began putting bigger tires, stronger suspension and more powerful engines in the truck. But Bob drove so hard he often broke it. Because of his “throttle mashing” driving style, he was nicknamed “BIGFOOT”, a name he put on he side of his truck. Over about 30-something years worth of improvements in speed, safety, suspension and competition, car crushing evolved into monster truck racing, and later, freestyle. All thanks to Bob and BIGFOOT 1, several thousand monster trucks compete throughout the world. Bob was the first ever inductee into the International Monster Truck Hall of Fame in November 2011.
