I'm often asked what I mean when I say ADHD is my primary diagnosis so here I'll give a brief summary of what that means.
A primary diagnosis is usually based on the severity of a person's condition, disorder or disability and it's the main diagnosis for a person.
For example, if a person goes for an assessment for autism but the specialist finds that they have more symptoms of ADHD and they're more severe than the autistic symptoms then the ADHD will be classed as the primary diagnosis whereas the autism will be classed as a secondary diagnosis and so forth.
The primary diagnosis also refers to the person's main condition, disorder or disability that demands the most in terms of support needs and provider resources, etc.
I hope this helps? π»β¨
