There are another couple of easy ways to ferret out a scammer:

Wireshark: A free program to back trace open chat channels to originating suspect IP addresses.

Use of Email Headers: If you receive an email from a suspect person, view the originating email header and take note of their IP address. Then, enter that address to: https://www.ipqualityscore.com/free-ip-lookup-proxy-vpn-test

There you can check if that IP address is associated with fraudulent activity.

Most Importantly: Never use your main email address for correspondance with a suspect person! That is just asking for spamming, phishing attacks, or worse! Create a subaccount on your mailserver for this purpose.
